The 2025 Ford Expedition has long been a standout three-row SUV, known for its spacious design and powerful performance. Now, Ford has given this popular model a new twist: a police-ready version.

Meet theย 2025 Ford Expeditionย Special Service Vehicle (SSV), designed to meet the demanding needs of law enforcement while keeping many of the comforts drivers already love.

Two Seating Options for Maximum Versatility

The Expedition SSV, often mistaken for Ford Explorer, comes with two configurations to suit various needs:

  • Two-row version: Offers plenty of space for personnel and gear.
  • Expedition Max SSV: Adds a third row with 60/40 power-folding and reclining seats. This added functionality is ideal for officers managing equipment-heavy missions or needing extra seating capacity.
The tailgate doubles as a sturdy platform, supporting up to 500 poundsโ€”a thoughtful touch for quickly organizing gear or preparing for an operation.

The exterior of the Expedition SSV means business. It includes:

  • A light bar and spotlights for improved visibility during emergencies.
  • A push bar on the front bumper for added utility.
  • Running steps integrated with red-and-blue lighting for visibility at night.
  • All-terrain tires (P265/70R18E) on aluminum wheels, backed by a full-size spare.

Performance Built for Tough Jobs

Under the hood, aย 3.5-liter twin-turbo EcoBoost V-6ย delivers an impressiveย 400 horsepowerย and 480 lb-ft of torque. Paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission and a two-speed transfer case, the Expedition SSV offers smooth performance and reliability.

It can tow up to 9,600 pounds (9,000 for the Max version), making it perfect for transporting equipment, marine units, or trailers.

Ford didnโ€™t stop thereโ€”theyโ€™ve also included tools like Pro Trailer Hitch Assist, Backup Assist, and BLIS with Trailer Coverage to make hauling safer and easier.

A Comfortable Yet Practical Interior

While some police vehicles sacrifice comfort for utility, the Expedition SSV strikes a balance. It retains its civilian-friendly features, including:

  • A 24-inch panoramic display with Google Assistant and Alexa Built-In.
  • A dial shifter for better use of center console space, leaving room for radios and computers.
Additional features like Pre-Collision Assist with Emergency Braking and Intersection Assist prioritize officer safety on the road.

Law Enforcement-Specific Features

Ford designed the Expedition SSV with officers in mind:

  • Dark Car mode: Keeps interior lights off during stakeouts or nighttime operations.
  • Timed-release cargo access: Ensures only authorized personnel can retrieve specific equipment.
  • Easy-to-clean materials: Cloth seats and vinyl flooring simplify maintenance.
Every seating area, including the third row in the Max version, offers power points for charging devicesโ€”a small but essential convenience.

When Can You Expect It?

Production is happening at the Kentucky Truck Plant on January 6, and availability is right around the corner, asย Ford Authority reports.

While Ford has not officially announced pricing details, estimates suggest that the base model will start just under $60,000, with higher trims, such as the Platinum with the Ultimate package, exceeding $90,000, as perย Car Gurus.

The 2025 Ford Expedition SSV is proof that utility and comfort can coexist in a police vehicle.

Its thoughtful design and robust performance features ensure itโ€™s more than ready for the toughest jobs, while small details like the panoramic display and tailgate platform show Ford hasnโ€™t forgotten what drivers value.

Officers can now hit the streets in a vehicle as reliable as their resolve.
